I am the Don Rodzik Family Chair in Law and Entrepreneurship and a Distinguished University Professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Windsor. My area of expertise is intellectual property law, including capacity-building in IP and data literacy. I have founded and led IP clinical and educational initiatives including establishing the first interdisciplinary transactional law and entrepreneurship centre in the country. I am the co-author of The Intellectual Property Guide, Tawfik/Bawa, Brush Education, 2019 and an online foundational course (Foundations of IP Strategy, Tawfik/Bawa, CIGI, 2016). I am very active in policy-development in IP and data literacy. I was appointed to serve on the province of Ontario’s expert panel on the commercialization of public sector IP and I continue to consult for the province on IP education. My projects include leading a study on the underrepresentation of women and women-identifying innovators and entrepreneurs in the IP system, co-creating an online course on data strategy (with Karima Bawa) and co-developing an online course for creative entrepreneurs (University of Windsor and OCAD University).
I work actively with EPICentre on the EPIC Legal initiative which provides educational programs to support start-ups and entrepreneurs with business law and intellectual property law information services while at the same time offering experiential learning opportunities for law students.
